ICO date: 25.05.2018 - 04.07.2018

Potion Owl is a P2P healthcare services platform that focuses on the patient. Its aim is to make healthcare services easily accessible in any place on the globe.

How it works:

PotionOwl focuses on catering to patients who travel abroad and local private healthcare professionals. The company singles out one specific problem to start their growth with, tourists who are having hard times finding a doctor and getting proper treatment in the Caribbean. It is huge market for the PotionOwl to take over, and it so seems it has little to no competitors in the region.

PotionOwl is an already functioning app. Patients’ info can be shared between institutions to facilitate the process of treating on vacation and unify the medical records. The information on prescriptions is unified too, so a patient who comes back from a vacation with a medical prescription will have no trouble buying pills with it. Patients can also quickly find a local healthcare professional and schedule an appointment to escape long queues in a government facility.

This ICO fuels the next stage of the project’s development. The company plans to introduce a system of smart contracts to govern authentication and authorization, a utility token to simplify transactions between participants, a SDK to create new healthcare apps in the PotionOwl Ecosystem and Med rep feature. People can take up Med rep responsibilities, organizing data that healthcare institutions like pharmacies and hospitals provide, to get rewarded with PTN tokens.

Nebilo blockchain brings decentralization, improved performance and scalability to the platform. The team believes it to be the best environment for PotionOwl.

The solution the Potion Owl provides is tailored to nullify one very local problem, tourists having to wait for their treatment as finding a doctor is hard and no medical history is accessible to the doctors. Even though it is not a major innovation, the company resolves that one problem brilliantly.

Innovation score: Medium

Token value:

PTN tokens are used as a method of authentication and validation on the platform, as well as making payments to Med reps and healthcare professionals. With the rising demand, the price of PTN token will increase too, allowing ICO participants to have their deserved profit.

White paper:

The white paper shows an overview of the project, talks a bit about technology used in development and why do they use Nebilo blockchain. It also describes the market they are entering and the audience they plan to cater to, as well as marketing channels they plan to use. Apart from that, Potion Owl’s white paper presents token economics and talks about concept of the platform.

The project has two roadmaps. First one is mostly concerned with ICO stages, the other one is a marketing roadmap that outlines what countries of the Caribbean are going to be taken over first. As of today Potion Owl is a functioning app and business, so this ICO is only a stage in the project’s development.

The company plans to begin outreach campaign across the Caribbean, Central and South American Regions in the third quarter of 2018. They will develop smart contracts for the platform and integrate Nebilo network with it. By May 2019 the company expects to finish research and development stages, as well as expansion further into the region and building partnerships.

Business model:

The business model is not mentioned in the white paper, nor on the official site of the company. However, the founder kindly provided us with the information on this. The app’s revenue stream is transaction fees.

The company focuses on the Caribbean as a starting point, because its a market of 30 mio tourists a year, who have hard times finding a doctor, and getting proper treatment without delays to synchronize medical history, should they fall ill. It targets mostly millennials as research indicates that they are likely to change doctors a lot and have a need for such an app.

The aim of the marketing campaign is to expand all over the Caribbean starting from Jamaica in a span of 6 months. The team will use multiple marketing channels to achieve the goal. After the Caribbean starts using their app, the team will focus their marketing efforts on Central and South America. They plan to continue with Europe and Asian/Oceania, finishing by expanding into Africa by 2022.

However, Potion Owl will have to expand their team significantly to achieve that aim.

Business model score: High

The core team has been working together on Potion Owl since 2014. The site only shows three core members, the founder and two developers. The founder has 10 years of experience in development. One of the developers has eight years of experience in the field, the other one seems to have four years of experience in design and development, according to her LinkedIn profile. She also represents the project in public events.

The advisory board has three people on, a finance advisor, a marketing advisor and a researcher. The marketing advisor has over 7 years of experience in the field, but as his LinkedIn profile indicates, isn’t completely focused on software marketing.

Overall the team is sufficient for the local enterprise, but to expand beyond the Caribbean, Potion Owl will have to change the staff significantly.

Team score: High

The market of medical apps is growing. It has a lot of opportunities for revenue in it, and a lot of competitors too. Startups like MedCredits, Medicalchain, MyMedis and dozens of others that have a lot of advantages compared to Potion Owl compete against it.

However, this company knows its limits and chooses a very local niche to start growing in. No other company targets the Caribbean, a huge market of tourists. Potion Owl plans on cashing in on solving their health problems and this leaves the company with little to no competitors at the early stages.

Competitors score: High

Overall thoughts:

Potion Owl has a solution for a problem of a very local but rather big market. No other company competes against it in its small niche. The business has been in operation since 2014, the ICO is going to fuel its further development.

It is unclear whether Potion Owl will ever successfully expand beyond the Caribbean and South America, but even with these markets PTN will rise in price enough to consider investing in it a good decision.
